Alice and Other Tales
Storytelling is a way of making sense of the world that is passed down through generations. The story may be told to instruct, heal or to entertain and mystify the audience. But mostly the story stimulates our imagination. A lot of the stories that I work with have been handed down from my Irish grandmother or inspired by stories I have read and heard on my travels and that are connected to a particular place. Each place I have been to on my travels (Cyprus, Italy, Tasmania, Chicago, Barcelona, India and France) has its own story to remember by which I remember it, often captured in sketchbooks and artwork that I made there. When an archetypal image is used in a story it has universal meaning, in this way stories can transcend cultural differences and offer psychological insight.
